Add a new Tableau connector

This task requires either the Connector Administrator or Super Administrator role in ConductorOne.

1. In ConductorOne, open Admin and click Connectors > Add connector.

2. Search for Tableau and click Add.

3. Choose whether to add the new Tableau connector as a data source to an existing application (and select the app of your choice) or to create a new application.

   Do you SSO into Tableau using your identity provider (IdP)? If so, make sure to add the connector to the Tableau app that was created automatically when you integrated your IdP with ConductorOne, rather than creating a new app.

4. Set the owner for this connector. You can manage the connector yourself, or choose someone else from the list of ConductorOne users. Setting multiple owners is allowed.

   A Tableau connector owner must have the following permissions:

   • Connector Administrator or Super Administrator role in ConductorOne
   • Server Administrator role in Tableau Server or Site Administrator in Tableau Cloud

5. Click Next.

• If someone else is the connector owner, ConductorOne will notify them by email that their help is needed to complete the setup process.

Configure your Tableau connector

A user with the Connector Administrator or Super Administrator role in ConductorOne and Server Administrator role in Tableau Server or Site Administrator in Tableau Cloud must perform this task.

To work with the Tableau APIs, you’ll need either an installation of Tableau Server or membership in the Tableau Developer Program, which grants you a personal Tableau Cloud sandbox.

Step 1: Generate a Personal Access Token

1. Sign into Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud.

2. In the menu bar at the top of the page, click your profile image or initials and select My Account Settings from the menu.

3. In the Personal Access Tokens area of the page, enter a name for your new token (such as “ConductorOne integration”) and then click Create.

4. Carefully copy and save the newly generated token. We’ll use it and the token’s name in Step 3.

Step 2: Locate your server path and site ID

1. Locate your server path, which is the base URL for your Tableau server.

2. Locate your site ID, which is the value that appears after /site/ in the full URL for your Tableau instance.

Examples:

For a Tableau Server instance with the URL http://SampleServer/#/site/SecurityTeam/projects, the server path is SampleServer and the site ID is SecurityTeam.

For a Tableau Cloud instance with the URL https://10ay.online.tableau.com/#/site/MarketingTeam/workbooks, the server path is 10ay.online.tableau.com and the site ID is MarketingTeam.

Step 3: Add your Tableau credentials to ConductorOne

1. In ConductorOne, navigate to the Tableau connector by either:

   • Clicking the Set up connector link in the email you received about configuring the connector.

   • Navigate to Admin > Connectors > Tableau (if there is more than one Tableau listed, click the one with your name listed as owner and the status Not connected).

2. Find the Settings area of the page and click Edit.

3. Enter the site ID and server path located in Step 2 into the Site ID and Server path fields.

4. Enter the name of the personal access token you generated in Step 1 into the Access token name field.

5. Enter the personal access token you generated in Step 1 into the Access token secret field.

6. Click Save.

7. The connector’s label changes to Syncing, followed by Connected. You can view the logs to ensure that information is syncing.

That’s it! Your Tableau connector is now pulling access data into ConductorOne.

Configure the Tableau integration using Terraform

As an alternative to the integration process described above, you can use Terraform to configure the integration between Tableau and ConductorOne.
