Set up a Duo connector

ConductorOne provides identity governance for Duo. Integrate your Duo instance with ConductorOne to run user access reviews (UARs) and enable just-in-time access requests.

Availability

General availability. The Duo connector is available to all ConductorOne users.

This connector uses the Duo Admin API, which is available to users on the Duo Beyond, Duo Access, and Duo MFA plans.

Capabilities

  • Sync user identities from Duo to ConductorOne

  • Resources supported:

    • Roles
    • Groups

Add a new Duo connector

This task requires either the Connector Administrator or Super Administrator role in ConductorOne.

  1. In ConductorOne, open Admin and click Connectors > Add connector.

  2. Search for Duo and click Add.

  3. Choose whether to add the new Duo connector as a data source to an existing application (and select the app of your choice) or to create a new application.

Do you SSO into Duo using your identity provider (IdP)? If so, make sure to add the connector to the Duo app that was created automatically when you integrated your IdP with ConductorOne, rather than creating a new app.

  1. Set the owner for this connector. You can manage the connector yourself, or choose someone else from the list of ConductorOne users. Setting multiple owners is allowed.

A Duo connector owner must have the following permissions:

    • Connector Administrator or Super Administrator role in ConductorOne
    • Owner role in Duo
  1. Click Next.

Next steps

  • If you are the connector owner, proceed to Configure your Duo connector for instructions on integrating Duo with ConductorOne.

  • If someone else is the connector owner, ConductorOne will notify them by email that their help is needed to complete the setup process.

Configure your Duo connector

A user with the Connector Administrator or Super Administrator role in ConductorOne and the Owner role in Duo must perform this task.

Step 1: Look up Duo credentials

  1. Log into the Duo Admin Panel and navigate to Applications.

  2. Click Protect an Application and locate the entry for Admin API in the applications list.

  3. Click Protect.

  4. In the Permissions section, grant the following:

    • Grant administrators
    • Grant read information
    • Grant applications
    • Grant settings
    • Grant read resource
  5. Click Save changes. Scroll to the Details section, where the integration key, secret key, and API hostname are shown.

  6. Make a careful note of these credentials. We’ll use them in Step 2.

Step 2: Add your Duo credentials to ConductorOne

  1. In ConductorOne, navigate to the Duo connector by either:

    • Clicking the Set up connector link in the email you received about configuring the connector.

    • Navigate to Admin > Connectors > Duo (if there is more than one Duo listed, click the one with your name listed as owner and the status Not connected).

  2. Find the Settings area of the page and click Edit.

  3. In the Integration key, Secret key, and API hostname fields, enter the credentials you looked up in Step 1.

  4. Click Save.

  5. The connector’s label changes to Syncing, followed by Connected. You can view the logs to ensure that information is syncing.

That’s it! Your Duo connector is now pulling access data into ConductorOne.

Configure the Duo integration using Terraform

As an alternative to the integration process described above, you can use Terraform to configure the integration between Duo and ConductorOne.

See the ConductorOne Duo integration resource page in the ConductorOne Terraform registry for example usage and the full list of required and optional parameters.
